If you want to celebrate the end of lockdown in style, our four Exmoor Character Cottages promise a beautiful holiday! Take off on your British coastal getaway and breathe in the landscape that inspired the romantic poets Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey. Ramble through the valleys and fields that form the backdrop for the romantic drama Lorna Doone. Soak up awesome views on the South West Coastal Path. Then come home to luxurious boutique cottages with plenty of space to relax, socialise, and enjoy. So, kick back, chill-out and treat yourself to some seriously luxurious downtime in our five-star characterful self-catering properties.
A perfect cottage boutique retreat
All our cottages have wow-factor décor, with high-end interiors, vintage finds, and antiques. There are lashings of original features such as exposed beams and oodles of charm. However, these properties definitely retain that home-from-home feeling. Try our quintessentially English thatched cottages, Pilgrim Corner and The Old Sweet Shop. Each charming abode sleep eight, has a wood-burning stove and boasts a state-of-the-art hot tub in the garden.
If it’s uber-modern you want, choose the open-plan slinky barn conversion and get serious home-envy. This architect-designed cool Barn is right in the centre of a quiet local conservation area. The urban-styled getaway sleeps up to six.
History buffs will love our oldest cottage, ‘The Oval’, built in 1366. With three-foot thick walls, a ‘squint’ window and ancient features, your party of up to six will relish stepping back in time with all the modern conveniences you’d expect from a luxury property.
At the end of the day, get starry-eyed in one of our hot tubs or beautiful cottage gardens. Settle down to a night of stargazing in this Dark Skies Reserve. We’re an accredited accommodation provider and can offer telescope hire and written guides. Moreover, we even know a local astronomer to make sense of all-things celestial!
Indulgent group accommodation – the more the merrier
Why not make an occasion of it? Our Minehead cottages can be booked together to sleep up to 16 or 22 for weddings, birthday bashes and post-lockdown get-togethers.
Stay for a long weekend, a mid-week break, a seven-night stay or longer. Your fur friends are welcome at all our charming cottages. All have outdoor spaces and gardens, with plenty of seating for al fresco dining as the days get longer.
Boutique retreats – what to do when you get here
The great outdoors
Location-wise, our four premium quality holiday homes make the ideal base. Minutes from the coastline or countryside, or pretty villages. Take your pick.
Explore Exmoor on foot. It’s one of the UK’s smallest national parks and you can cover a lot of ground in three days. There are countless rambles, many featured in our own Little Book of Walks. So pull on your wellies and grab the binoculars, and head out on tour.
Choose from windswept coastlines and heather-filled moors and mystical ancient woods. Or fall in love in the Lorna Doone Valley, the most romantic place on Exmoor.
Pubs and dining
Did someone say pub? We are spoilt for choice in this part of the South-west. Savour local ales and ciders, fabulous local plates and roaring fires in our cosy hostelries.
Charming, historic Exmoor villages
Discover many ages of English architecture side-by-side in our quaint villages. Medieval marvels nestle side-by-side with Tudor cottages, stately Georgian homes, and Victorian hunting lodges. Not to mention castles, stately homes, stunning formal gardens in private grounds and Iron Age forts and barrows to marvel at. It’s all here.
There’s a wide array of gorgeous shops selling local artisan-crafted food, drink, fashion, homewares and furniture. Make Dunster, Porlock, Lynton or Dulverton your destination from some serious retail therapy. Get a real buzz from meeting the owners and makers as you support the economy and shop local!
Whether your idea of boutique retreats is to just collapse in a hot tub with your favourite tipple, or get out in Mother Nature, it’s all here waiting for you. We are looking forward to welcoming you. Find out our availability or contact us with more questions.
