Introducing The Old Sweet Shop
A quintessential chocolate box cottage sleeping eight with hot tub
Located in the quietest and prettiest part of Minehead, The Old Sweet Shop is a seventeenth century thatched cottage, and our third luxury holiday home. Some of our neighbours remember buying strawberry sherbets, gobstoppers and ice creams here on the way to and from school. As with all our character properties, you’ll be staying in a truly historical cottage if you choose to holiday here.
We have now completed an extensive and sympathetic restoration, which maximises the cottage’s space and light, and historical features including thick stone walls. A large fireplace with over mantle, exposed beams, semi-circular staircase, and leaded light windows all sit perfectly alongside the new furnishings and modern appliances.
The sitting room has charming mullion windows with pretty seats as well as comfortable sofas and armchairs. There’s a large flat screen smart TV with Sky Q Box, Netflix and Blu-ray player to keep you entertained.
The spacious kitchen/diner has a range cooker, high-spec appliances and plenty of work and storage space. Perfect for family gatherings, the dining area has a large oak table that seats eight comfortably.
Antique furniture, high-quality mattresses and furnishings, and crisp bedding and soft towels complement the décor of four comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms (three en-suite). They are named after favourite sweets – Marshmallow (king), Lemon Drop (twin), Strawberry Sherbet (double) and Refresher (four poster king). In the sunny garden you’ll find a summer house, two terraces and a large hot tub.
As with all our cottages, The Old Sweet Shop is suitable for families with children, couples and larger adult-only groups. Dogs are welcome on request. Linen and central heating are included in the rental (please bring your own beach towels for use in the hot tub). There is on-site parking for two cars.
As it is located next door to Pilgrim Corner which sleeps eight, we can now accommodate larger parties, depending on availability. Please contact us for more details.

We know the importance of going the extra mile to delight our guests. That’s why our returning guests receive special treatment. We design and furnish the interiors with our visitors’ various needs in mind, hoping they will enjoy one cottage so much they’ll want to try another.
We’re delighted that visitors to our cottages bring essential income to an area of West Somerset that struggles economically compared to the rest of the UK. We encourage everyone to shop and eat locally as well as visit the local sites when they are here and thank you for doing so.
