Learn and make your own animal sugar paste cake decorations – and then show them off at home (or eat them!)
When it comes to decorating celebration cakes, standards have been raised over the past few years! TV programmes like ‘Extreme Cake Makers’ and ‘Ultimate Cake off’ attract millions of viewers. Indeed, so many of us love watching cakes come to life with incredible ornamentation. So, if you want to put the wow factor into your home baking, we have the workshop to help!
Bringing animals to life – in sugar paste cake decorations
Local lady June Harris has been decorating customised Christening, Wedding, Birthday, Anniversary and Christmas cakes for her family and friends for many years. She’s styled pretty much every animal in the Ark (and some that aren’t)! We’re delighted that she’s going to share her skills and top tips with you and your little people. She’ll help you bring bees, dogs, pandas, lions, frogs, monkeys and cats to life in pretty sugar fondant.
Once you know the secrets, it’s possible to sculpt a whole range of beautiful and edible sugar paste creatures. You can customise them to your friends and family – a lovely gift! June will take you through the stages step-by-step, then be on hand to help.
Don’t forget sugar paste cake decorations for Christmas!
Let’s not forget the festive period. June can also share the secrets to making perfect snowmen, Santas, polar bears and penguins, too. Ho, ho, ho!
Bring out your inner smile making cute animal sugar paste cake decorations
This is a good, fun way to spend time molding charming animals with your little ones. It’s also plenty of good banter just as a group of adults. Moreover, it’s perfect wet weather activity to do in your cottage. For Exmoor Character Cottages guests only, this morning or afternoon half day session is sure to bring out your inner child – and inner smile. You might be so proud of your artistry that you won’t be able to eat them!
Quick trivia: When did we start creating sugar paste cake decorations?
Cake decorating originated in 17th century in Europe. During the 1840s, the arrival of temperature-controlled ovens and the production of baking powder made baking cakes much easier. As the technology improved, there was more emphasis on presentation and ornamentation as cakes. Indeed, these were often the showstopping centrepiece of dinner parties.
