DIY Handmade Gourmet Marshmallows in our Fun Workshop!
Make your own ‘grown-up’ handmade gourmet marshmallows – and then enjoy toasting and eating them!
Do you have cherished memories of toasting these yummy delights around a fire? Of making delicious, sweet floating tops in pink and white on your coffee? Or just gobbling them straight from the pack? If these soft, gooey, sublime morsels are your thing, we have just the experience for you.
Make marshmallows in a genuine ‘sweet shop’
This is a very rare sweet treat. In fact, we’re delighted to offer it, because we’ve never come across anything like this. Imagine making these favourite treats in The Old Sweet Shop, a very own authentic former old-fashioned sweets retailer. We even have a bedroom of the same name!
A marshmallow recipe handmade with love (and gin)
Welcome to a fun and unique ‘Makes, Bakes, Creates’ experience when you holiday with Exmoor Character Cottages. We’re lucky to have an extremely talented local lady, Janet, who makes delicious, ‘grown-up’ marshmallows using locally grown organic fruit. She has agreed to run this half-day workshop exclusively for our guests so you can make your own. We say ‘grown-up’ because you can make them with gin and natural ingredients, including local fruit! Janet is offering the following four flavours: Sicilian Lemon, Summer Fruit, Vanilla and Just Gin.
Natural, local and organic
Janet makes these incredible sweet treats in small batches and flavours them with organic fruit that grows in Exmoor National Park’s nutrient-rich soil. Maintained by nature, pollinated by bumblebees, Exmoor’s pure fresh air and water swell the berries until they are sweet and ripe, ready to handpick and flavour these gooey good things!
A free-from recipe with no artificial ingredients
Janet’s range is free from gluten, egg, dairy, fat, palm oil and GMO. Plus, there’s no artificial colourings, flavourings or drying agents. Basically, they’re good for you 😊.
How to make marshmallows
Janet will bring everything you need to your cottage, including ingredients and equipment. She’ll show you how to make them and provide guidance and support along the way in this fun session. Once created, you will need to leave dry for at least four hours or, ideally, overnight. In the end, you’ll get to keep all the tasty delights that you’ve made. You will also receive cocktail sticks to toast them for another time and chafing gel to toast them at the table (on a heat resistant surface, please, we don’t want any accidents or fires!). Your group will also receive one 10% discount voucher to spend in Janet’s Grown-Up Marshmallows Minehead shop by the seafront.
Environmentally-friendly packaging for a greener planet
For Janet, it is essential that the packaging adheres to the same ethical philosophy as her handmade produce. Janet uses 100% recyclable, biodegradable, compostable packaging, including the interior bag. Even the box manufacture process is carbon neutral. This is core to the brand’s offer and is printed on the container, right next to the Exmoor flag.
Workshop dates, prices and how to book in 2021
Janet can run workshops on the following dates:
- May 1st weekend only, June (not the weekend of 12th or 26th)
