Budding astronauts party on Exmoor this Autumn!
There are hundreds of reasons why our guests return every year to Exmoor Character Cottages; the stunning and diverse landscape and the peace and tranquillity it affords, the wildlife, and of course the special events and traditions around Britain’s smallest national park.
One increasingly popular activity on the calendar is the annual Exmoor Dark Skies Festival from 14th October to 3rd November 2019. Whilst our guests don’t need to go far to gaze at the starry skies, this new annual festival all about discovering the milky way is a ‘stellar reason’ to visit! And is a must for the budding astronauts in the party.
The Exmoor Dark Skies Festival is an experience for all the family with an imaginative series of events including night exploring with hearty suppers, night mountain biking, astro-parties, planetariums and the Dark Skies Big Adventure. Out of this world Special Offer! We have invited Exmoor Stargazers who have eons of knowledge of the galaxy, to bring their telescopes to Pilgrim Corner, Minehead for guests booking a short break or seven-night stay taken on 1st – 8th November 2019. Simply place a booking for the cottage which sleeps up to eight for these dates and we will bring this unique experience to your party as part of the stay on Saturday night.
Exmoor National Park was Europe’s very first dark sky reserve. The sky here is free from light pollution of the cities and towns presenting an opportunity to view the stars with the naked eye, or through a telescope which we can hire for you during your stay. On a crisp clear night there is certainly a lot to see from our gardens, and many guests have enjoyed the view from one of our luxury hot tubs, with a glass of bubbly of course! And there are also many recommended star-gazing locations nearby where you can get the best view. All you need to do for a star trekking adventure is pack a picnic blanket and a flask of hot chocolate and take off!
Stargazing is of course an all year-round activity, but the winter months provide the opportunity for some pre-bedtime star gazing for the children in the party. To get you started we provide a free handy pocket guide to Exmoor’s Dark Sky Reserve in each of our four cottages, with top tips for star gazing on Exmoor, the best sites to visit, a set of star charts, and what to look out for.
To take advantage of our Dark Skies experience at Pilgrim Corner during the Exmoor Dark Skies Festival with a visit from the Exmoor Stargazers please book direct. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07817 698366
We also have availability throughout the Festival at our award-winning cottage, The Oval in Dunster. Find out more here: https://www.exmoorcharactercottages.co.uk/the-oval-dunster-cottage/
