If it’s time you treated yourself to much needed ‘me time’, we have the perfect cottages for weekend breaks. A three-night retreat in Exmoor is all you need to enjoy some quality time together with a partner, friends or family.
Perfect homes full of charm
Our four luxury self-catering properties provide everything you need for a stay. These superb holiday homes are full of charm and character. Located in the prettiest part of Minehead or in the beautiful medieval village of Dunster, you are spoilt for choice when selecting your perfect weekend cottage in the UK.
Settle into your self-contained, cosy short break retreat
Arrive on Friday night and settle in. Perhaps get cosy in front of a roaring fire. Take a dip in one of our hot tubs. Savour time cooking a meal in our well-equipped kitchens. Switch off and wind down with a movie or boxset on Netflix. Or head out to dine in one of the area’s fabulous pubs or restaurants.
Perfect cottages for weekend breaks by the seaside
Exmoor is perfect if you love the great outdoors. With wide open moorland, a breathtaking coastline, and fascinating historical sites, you can pack a lot into your three-night stay. Walk part of the South West Coastal Path and blow away the cobwebs! Or head up to North Hill.
Lynton and Lynmouth
A perfect Saturday road trip is to take the A39 out to Lynton and Lynmouth. The drive takes you through beautiful scenery. There are many stopping off points – check our Little Book of Walks for ideas. Let all your cares float away as you admire the views and the cloudscapes.
Start your day’s exploration in Lynmouth, then ride the funicular railway up to Lynton. Tour the town’s galleries, quirky museum, and shops. Maybe seek out Lyn Candles, one of our favourite shops on the way to the Valley of Rocks. Marvel at the almost prehistoric scene here. See how the wild goats cling to the crevices and crannies. Or you might choose to head to Watersmeet, one of the area’s most popular spots for sightseeing. Whatever you decide, make sure there’s time for a cream tea!
On the return route, stop off at Porlock Weir for locally grown oysters in season. Alternatively, enjoy a drink in the Bottom Ship pub as you watch the sun go down. Indeed, simple pleasures can help bring us back to the important things in life. This is the place to skim stones, to people watch, to enjoy pub grub and good conversation before heading back to your cottage retreat.
Enjoy your short break in Minehead and Dunster
If you’re looking for a seaside weekend break, you’ve come to the right place!
Head to Minehead’s sandy beach for sandcastles, seagulls, crazy golf and fish and chips. Dunster Beach is open for dog walking all year round and boasts fabulous views across to Wales. In fact, all our cottages are dog-friendly, so your pooch is very welcome! You’ll fall in love with the beach huts painted in pretty pastel shades. Alternatively, take a short drive out to Blue Anchor Bay where you’ll find the popular Driftwood Café for fry ups and ice creams. It’s right next to the West Somerset Heritage Railway. If you’re lucky, you’ll have time to ride the train or stand on the platform and wave to the passengers.
We always recommend a day trip to Dunster Castle and village. Whether you stay in our Dunster or Minehead rental homes, you can walk or drive here. After you’ve explored the house, watermill, and gardens, peruse the quaint medieval village. Don’t miss Dunster’s famous tearooms and coffee shops piled high with scones and home baked treats. Or sample Exmoor or Otter Ale in one of the pubs.
There is no doubt that this village has a way of casting a spell on visitors.
Of course, our perfect cottages for weekend breaks can be enjoyed for longer bookings as well! Find out what else makes Exmoor Character Cottages so special, or find out more about any of our four cottages.
