Unlike any other summer in history, this year we are all going to have to consider social distancing activities and make the most of our time away.
Indeed, finally, after months of being confined to your home because of the Coronavirus, it’s time to hit the road and head to your holiday at Exmoor Character Cottages. As you will already know, we have taken every possible precaution for your safety and wellbeing during your stay in our cottages.
We know you’ll also be planning your days out extra carefully. That’s why Lynne and I have researched and hand-picked 10 trips and things to do for you and your friends and family staying with us. We want your stay on Exmoor to be as safe as possible, but as enjoyable as possible as well!
10 social distancing ideas sure to entertain, indulge or surprise
There is certainly something for everyone in this list of ideas! For example:
- an indulgent cream tea enjoyed in the cottage’s garden
- walking, foraging, and fruit picking
- exploring Exmoor 4×4
- star gazing
There’s a wonderful selection here sure to provide great times for your group. And if you’re not staying with us, but have found this blog, please do feel free to download and print it for your Exmoor holiday! Download the PDF for free here.
Stay safe – use common sense
Of course, we can’t guarantee the walks, historical sites and beaches will be empty. As a result, please do use your common sense and logic. For example, if car parks are full, that’s a good indication that the venue you’ve chosen will be busy. As such you might want to move on elsewhere and return another day at a different time.
Pack hand sanitiser
Please do take hand sanitiser out with you, and wear a face covering where you feel it’s appropriate. As always, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water when the opportunity and need arises.
The impact of coronavirus on the local economy and community
Exmoor is one of England’s smallest national parks, and we’re a close community. As you can imagine, and like every other sector, the businesses that rely on tourism here have suffered financially since the lockdown started on 23rd March. All the suppliers listed here have been working hard to stay in business, and to help during the COVID-19 crisis where they can. The shops, tearooms and caterers have all adapted their businesses fast to provide Exmoor locals with much-needed services during the time.
We want to thank them for that. If you can, please support these wonderful local establishments:
- The Deli in Dunster
- Stuart Lowen Farm Shop
- Claire’s Catering
- Cross Lane House Tea Room
- Reeves Restaurant in Dunster
We want you to enjoy these activities safely, and so we’ve discussed social distancing and the new guidelines with all the suppliers we recommend, and we are confident they can provide a safe experience for you.
Please respect and be considerate of others during COVID-19
We also want to respect our local community – many of whom are older residents than the national average. Please do bear in mind that many people are anxious about social distancing. Being careful, considerate and kind is a wonderful trait in any situation, but especially now in light of coronavirus.
The world is still adapting to this ‘new normal’
Just one note: we are all learning how to navigate our way through these strange times. If you do have a concern, remember, please just mention it to your guide or organiser and we know they’ll respond and do their best to reassure you. And if you love your stay (as we are sure you will!), please mention it when you leave a review for us in our Guest Book, on our TripAdvisor or Google review pages – such gestures make a huge difference to our small business, too.
So, all that remains for me to say is that I hope you get time to experience one or more of these social distancing activities when you are here. Do book in advance, pay direct and speak direct to the organiser so you all know what to expect.
We wish you Happy and Safe Holidays!
